A premium-feeling, festive personal recap flow built with a genuinely limited set of animation tools at the time

Overview

The Ramadan Personal Recap is a short, personal year-in-review flow that thanks each user for a Ramadan season of usage: it opens with a festive lantern-themed intro, moves into a personal usage summary (minutes talked, calls made, data used), and closes with a spotlight-style thank-you moment. The whole flow had to feel premium and celebratory, built with a genuinely basic animation toolset available at the time.

Problem

A year-in-review moment is inherently about making a user feel individually recognized, but this flow had to achieve that feeling with animation tools that were, at the time, limited compared to what a “premium” recap experience usually implies.

The design challenge was closing that gap: festive, personal, high-quality in feel, without the production tooling that would normally support it.

Goals

  • Open with enough festive, Ramadan-specific atmosphere that the recap reads as a seasonal gift, not a routine account summary.
  • Present personal usage numbers (minutes, calls, data) plainly and warmly, without dressing them up in jargon or status codes.
  • Close on an emotional high point, a spotlight thank-you, rather than ending on a data screen.
  • Achieve a premium feel within the real constraints of the animation tooling available at the time.

Business Context

Ramadan is Vodafone Egypt’s highest-engagement season, and a personal recap is a low-cost way to convert a season of ordinary usage into a moment of brand goodwill, if it feels genuine rather than templated. Getting the tone right (personal and warm, not another promotional push) mattered more here than in most feature work.

Research

Constraints

Discovery

The clearest realization was that a simple, well-paced structure, an intro moment, a clear numbers moment, a thank-you moment, could carry the emotional weight the project needed even without heavy animation.

The limited toolset became a scoping constraint, not a blocker: fewer, better-timed animated moments instead of many small ones.

Strategy

The flow opens with a Ramadan-themed intro screen, a Vodafone-branded lantern card and a “Ramadan Kareem” banner, leading into a personal stats screen listing minutes talked, calls made, and data used as three large, individually labeled numbers on a warm, festive card. It closes with a spotlight-style thank-you screen: two stage lights converging on the Vodafone logo beside a stylized “thank you” (شكراً) signature.

UX Decisions

Stat presentation

Three numbers, each with its own icon and label

Every usage stat (minutes, calls, data) gets its own icon, number, and plain-language label instead of a dense combined summary, so each figure reads individually at a glance.

Emotional bookends

A lantern arrival, a spotlight close

The lantern and stage-spotlight metaphor frames the flow emotionally, arrival, then a personal spotlight moment, so it doesn’t end abruptly after the numbers screen.

Length

Three screens, not a dashboard

The flow stays linear and short, appropriate for a once-a-year moment meant to feel like a quick, warm gesture rather than a multi-stat dashboard.

Wireframes

Given the flow’s short length, structure work focused on pacing between its three moments (intro, stats, thank-you) instead of a broad layout exploration, making sure each screen had enough time and visual weight to land before moving to the next.

The stats screen shows the same warm card treatment with three stacked stat blocks, each pairing an icon (a clock-faced phone, a calling icon, a globe) with a large number and a plain Arabic label.

The closing screen uses a darker red, stage-like backdrop with two spotlight beams converging on a Vodafone logo beside a hand-lettered “thank you” mark.

Motion

Motion was deliberately concentrated at the two moments that mattered most emotionally: the lantern intro’s arrival and the closing spotlight reveal, not spread evenly across every screen. This was a direct response to the basic tooling available, since a few well-placed animated moments read as more premium than many thin ones.

Design System

The recap uses Vodafone’s red brand palette with warm, cream-colored card surfaces and Ramadan-specific ornamentation (lanterns, crescent moons, stars), a festive variation on the brand system consistent with how Vodafone Egypt treats other Ramadan season touchpoints.

Engineering Collaboration

Accessibility

Testing

No dedicated usability study is documented for this flow. The screens shown here use one user’s example data (9,514 minutes talked, 95 calls, 3,472 MB used) to illustrate the format, not a verified aggregate or template figure.

Business Impact

By closing Ramadan, Vodafone Egypt’s highest-engagement season, with a personal, warmly-framed thank-you rather than another promotional push, the recap aimed to reinforce goodwill at the exact moment usage (and therefore relevance) was highest.

Results

The recap shipped as a complete three-screen flow: a festive lantern-themed intro, a personal usage summary, and a spotlight-style thank-you closing screen.

Metrics

Learnings

Limited tooling forced a useful discipline: concentrating motion at the two moments that carried the most emotional weight, arrival and thank-you, produced a more premium feel than evenly-distributed, lower-impact motion spread across every screen.

Reflection

This project sits alongside other constrained work in this portfolio, like the 120KB gold-bar animation, as a reminder that “premium feeling” and “premium tooling” aren’t the same requirement. Pacing, tone, and knowing exactly where to spend the animation budget mattered more here than access to a bigger toolset would have.
