Overview
El Kataloog (Arabic for “the catalog”) is a Ramadan feature inside the Vodafone Egypt app that tracks the season’s TV series across three separate streaming platforms, Shahid, W, and Yango Play, in one place. Beyond browsing and episode lists, its distinguishing piece is a Voting Streak: a daily habit loop that rewards consistent use with a hint and better odds in Fawazeer, Vodafone Egypt’s flagship Ramadan trivia game.
Problem
Ramadan series in Egypt are scattered across multiple streaming platforms: keeping track of what’s airing, what’s worth watching, and where to actually watch it means checking several separate apps.
El Kataloog needed to unify that browsing experience without becoming just another content aggregator with no reason to open it daily.
Goals
- Aggregate Ramadan series across Shahid, W, and Yango Play into a single, browsable catalog.
- Give each show enough context (genre, rating, episode list, director) to support a watch decision without leaving the app.
- Build a reason to return daily, not just during initial browsing, by tying the feature into Vodafone Egypt’s existing Fawazeer game.
- Keep the hand-off to the actual streaming platform a single tap, since El Kataloog is a discovery layer, not a video player.
Business Context
El Kataloog sits alongside Fawazeer as part of Vodafone Egypt’s Ramadan season content strategy, when engagement across the app’s entertainment features is at its highest point in the year. Connecting the two features (a Kataloog voting streak unlocking a Fawazeer advantage) gave the company a way to drive repeat visits to both features from a single habit, rather than treating them as unrelated seasonal content.

Constraints
Discovery
The habit-loop opportunity became clear once the Fawazeer connection was on the table: a daily voting action is a natural fit for a Ramadan series tracker (rate what you watched today), and Fawazeer already had an existing reward structure (hints, odds boosts) that a streak could plug into without inventing a new incentive system from scratch.
Borrowing a reward system users already trusted meant the streak didn’t need to invent its own currency to feel worth returning for.
Strategy
The catalog opens on a genre-and-platform browse view, with each show represented by its poster art and platform badge. Tapping a show opens a detail screen with its genre, episode count, average rating, and a direct “Watch on” button for its source platform. A persistent Voting Streak module tracks consecutive days voted, shows how many of the last several days are complete, and links directly to the specific Fawazeer reward (a hint plus better odds) the streak is building toward.
UX Decisions
Visible before you tap through
Shown directly on the browse and detail screens (Shahid, W, Yango Play) so a user always knows exactly where they’ll land.
A persistent module, not a buried toggle
Given a visible day count and flame icon rather than a settings-style toggle: the whole mechanic depends on being seen daily.
Stated explicitly, not left vague
The Fawazeer reward tied to the streak is spelled out (“vote for 7 consecutive days to win a hint and extra odds”), making the incentive concrete.
Kept on the same screen as the decision
Episode-level detail (title, synopsis, air context) sits alongside the show’s rating and cast credit, so a watch decision doesn’t require extra navigation.
Wireframes
Structure work focused on keeping three distinct pieces, browse, show detail, and the voting streak, feeling like one connected feature rather than three separate screens bolted together, since users move between “what should I watch” and “did I vote today” in the same session.
UI Design
The browse screen opens with a Ramadan-themed key art banner and a genre-tag row (Comedy, Drama, Witty, Ramadan) above a grid of show posters, each carrying its streaming-platform badge.

The show-detail screen pairs the poster with a title, genre and episode count, an average rating alongside a “rate this” prompt, and a red “Watch on Shahid” button.

A dedicated, scrollable episode list carries the same rating and Watch-on button alongside director credit, per-episode synopses, and a “Listen to Intro” option, keeping every detail needed for a watch decision on one screen.

The Voting Streak screen shows a flame icon, a day count, a calendar-style day tracker, and the specific Fawazeer reward the streak unlocks, alongside a “Vote now” button and the user’s saved list of shows.
Motion
Motion stayed functional: streak-day completion and voting confirmation give immediate visual feedback (a filled day, an updated count), since the mechanic depends on a user trusting that today’s vote registered, not on any decorative flourish.
Design System
El Kataloog uses a dark, cinema-like theme (dark backgrounds, poster-forward cards) that reads closer to a streaming app than Vodafone Egypt’s general app shell, with the red streak flame and accent line as the one consistent tie back to Vodafone’s brand color.
Engineering Collaboration
Accessibility
Testing
Validation centered on the cross-feature mechanic: confirming a completed Voting Streak correctly and reliably unlocked its stated Fawazeer reward.
Business Impact
By linking a Ramadan content-discovery feature to Fawazeer’s existing reward loop, El Kataloog gave Vodafone Egypt a way to extend one Ramadan season’s peak-engagement window across two features, not one, using a single daily habit as the connective mechanic.
Results
El Kataloog shipped as a complete Ramadan feature: a multi-platform show catalog with genre browsing, per-show detail and episode lists, and a Voting Streak habit loop with a direct, working reward tie-in to Fawazeer.
Metrics
Learnings
The clearest lesson from El Kataloog was less about interface craft than about where an incentive comes from.
Reflection
El Kataloog is a good example of designing a feature’s retention mechanic (the Voting Streak) as a first-class part of the product from the start, rather than layering gamification onto a content browser after the fact. The cross-feature reward is what turns a seasonal content tracker into a daily habit.
