Overview
Ana Vodafone (Arabic for “I am Vodafone”) is Vodafone Egypt’s self-service app, and this project was a referral ad built to drive new downloads: refer someone, and both people get a data gift once the new user installs the app. Marketing needed the ad live fast, with no lead time to brief an agency or build new campaign assets from scratch, so the full ad, reward flow, spin wheel, gift reveal, and the TikTok video itself, was designed and produced solo.
Problem
The referral campaign needed to launch immediately to start generating performance numbers, but there was no time in the schedule for the usual multi-person ad production process.
The ad also had to explain a two-sided reward (referrer and new user both benefit) inside a short-form vertical video, a format with very little time to land the offer before a viewer scrolls past.
Goals
- Get a complete, publishable referral ad live on a tight deadline, without waiting on external production.
- Make the referral reward (up to 1GB in data) legible in a few seconds of vertical video.
- Show the actual in-app reward mechanic (spin the wheel, reveal the gift) rather than describing it in text alone, so the ad reads as a real product moment, not generic marketing copy.
Business Context
Referral ads are a low-cost acquisition channel for Vodafone Egypt’s Ana Vodafone app: existing users bring in new users, and both sides get a reward, which is cheaper than most paid-acquisition channels per install. Speed to launch mattered because the campaign’s performance numbers were being tracked from day one, so any delay in getting the ad live was a delay in the data the campaign could show.
Research
Constraints
Discovery
The clearest asset already available was the in-app reward flow itself: a spin-the-wheel interaction ending in a “Congratulations” gift reveal.
Building the ad around that existing flow, not a new concept invented under pressure, meant the entire ad could be produced by one person against the deadline.
Strategy
The ad opens on a bold, single-color frame with the offer stated directly in Arabic (“get up to 1GB as a gift when you convince someone to download the app”), then cuts to a phone mockup showing the actual Ana Vodafone app: the referral link screen, the spin wheel, and the reward reveal modal with its “Congratulations” (مبروك) message and claim button. The structure mirrors the real user journey (see the offer, open the app, spin, win) rather than a generic ad narrative.
UX Decisions
Reward and condition on frame one
The reward amount and referral condition appear in bold Arabic text on the very first frame: the offer reads even if sound is off or a viewer only watches for a second or two.
A real screen, not an illustration
A real phone mockup of the actual app screen stands in for an illustrated or abstracted version, because returning users recognize the flow the moment they open the app.
Copy that matches the live app exactly
The gift-reveal modal’s copy and layout stay consistent with the in-app version: the ad sets an accurate expectation of what happens after a referral converts.
Wireframes
Given the compressed timeline, structure work happened directly in the video edit rather than through a separate wireframe pass: the shot order (offer statement, app context, spin wheel, gift reveal) was blocked out and refined in motion rather than on static boards first.
UI Design
The ad’s opening frame uses Vodafone’s red brand color at full saturation, with centered, bold Arabic type stating the referral offer directly.

The following frame shows a phone mockup of the Ana Vodafone app mid-flow: the app header and a “spin the wheel and win” prompt, paired with a red call-to-action.

The gift-reveal modal carries a wrapped-gift illustration, a congratulations headline, the specific reward amount and validity window, and a red claim-the-gift button.
Motion
Motion here served a single purpose: keep the offer readable and the app flow legible within a short vertical video, prioritizing quick, clear cuts between the offer statement and the reward mechanic over any elaborate transitions, since the ad’s job was to convert attention into an install, not to showcase animation craft.
Design System
The ad stays inside Vodafone’s existing red-and-white brand system and reuses the Ana Vodafone app’s own UI (rather than a custom ad-only visual style), so the promise shown in the ad matches what a new user actually sees after installing.
Engineering Collaboration
Accessibility
Testing
No formal usability or ad-creative testing round is documented for this project, consistent with its compressed production timeline. Performance was read directly from the ad’s live engagement (likes, comments, shares) after launch.
Business Impact
As a referral ad, the campaign’s job was to turn existing users into a low-cost acquisition channel for new Ana Vodafone installs.
Produced solo under a tight deadline, the ad became the best-performing post on the account by engagement, validating that a fast, accurately-scoped single-person production could outperform the account’s typical output.
Results
The ad shipped as a complete, TikTok-native vertical video covering the referral offer, the in-app reward mechanic, and the gift-reveal moment, produced solo from concept through final video.
Metrics
The ad reached 5.5K likes, about 40% higher than the Ana Vodafone TikTok account’s other posts. It also performed well when cross-posted to Facebook, though no separate Facebook figure is available to share publicly.

Learnings
A tight deadline forced a useful discipline: reuse what already works (the app’s existing reward flow) instead of inventing a new concept under time pressure.
Reflection
This project is a small-scale proof that solo, fast-turnaround production can hold its own against a fuller campaign process, provided the underlying idea (here, a mechanic already built and tested in the app) is strong enough to carry a short-form ad on its own.
